Gift Aid
Make Your Donations Go Further with Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a vital scheme that allows charities like Burnby Hall Gardens to reclaim tax on donations made by UK taxpayers. This scheme enhances the value of your donations by 25%, enabling us to do even more with your support. There are specific ways in which Gift Aid can be applied depending on the type of payment you make. Below, we outline how Gift Aid works for both day admissions and memberships, as well as other important details about the scheme.
When visiting Burnby Hall Gardens for a day, you have the option to enhance your contribution by opting into Gift Aid. However, standard admission fees alone do not qualify for Gift Aid. To claim Gift Aid on your admission, you must make an additional donation of at least 10% on top of the standard admission fee. This additional payment allows us to treat the entire amount as a donation for Gift Aid purposes.
Key Points:
- Additional Cost: To qualify for Gift Aid on a day admission, you must pay at least 10% more than the standard ticket price.
- Full Donation Treatment: If you add this extra amount, the total sum (standard fee + additional donation) is treated as a donation, allowing us to claim Gift Aid on the entire amount.
Example: If a standard admission fee is £10.00, a visitor can opt to pay the gift aid rate of £11.00 (£10 admission + £1 (10%) donation). The full £11.00 is then eligible for Gift Aid, allowing us to claim back from the government.
Important: The option to make an additional donation for Gift Aid purposes is available to everyone. Visitors always have the right to choose to pay the standard admission fee without making a Gift Aid declaration.
Memberships at Burnby Hall Gardens work differently when it comes to Gift Aid. Annual memberships, which provide entry for 12 months, automatically qualify as donations under HMRC rules. Therefore, you can opt into Gift Aid on your membership without paying anything extra.
Key Points:
- No Additional Cost: Unlike day admissions, there’s no need to make an additional payment. Your membership fee is already considered a donation.
- Year-Round Support: By opting into Gift Aid on your membership, you enhance the value of your support throughout the year.
Example: A £50 annual membership can be Gift Aided, allowing us to claim an additional £12.50 from the government, making your total contribution worth £62.50.
Conditions: To qualify for Gift Aid, the membership must grant the right of admission for at least one year and allow entry during all times that the property is open to the public. However, charities may specify up to five days where free admission does not apply.
Note: Gift Aid can only be claimed on memberships purchased for yourself or immediate family members. Memberships purchased for someone else do not qualify unless the recipient is under 18 years old.
Gift Aid Agreement
By selecting Gift Aid, you agree to the following declaration typically indicated by the Gift Aid logo:
I confirm that I have paid or will pay an amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax for the current tax year (April 6, 2024, to April 5, 2025) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) will reclaim on my gifts for this tax year. I understand that other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify. I acknowledge that the charity will reclaim 25p of tax on every £1 that I give. I also confirm that these Gift Aided tickets are for myself or members of my immediate family.
Taxpayer Confirmation: You confirm that you are a UK taxpayer and that the amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax you have paid or will pay in the current tax year is at least equal to the amount of Gift Aid claimed by all the charities or CASCs you donate to. This means you need to ensure that your tax contributions are sufficient to cover the total amount of Gift Aid reclaimed across all your charitable donations.
Understanding Non-Qualifying Taxes: You acknowledge that taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify for Gift Aid purposes. Only Income Tax and Capital Gains Tax count towards the eligibility.
Charity’s Right to Reclaim: You understand that by opting into Gift Aid, Burnby Hall Gardens will be able to reclaim 25p from the government for every £1 you donate, significantly increasing the value of your contribution.
Applicability to Personal and Family Donations: You confirm that the donations you are making under Gift Aid are either for yourself or members of your immediate family, ensuring the eligibility of your contributions under the Gift Aid scheme.
